2013 RAC Africa’s Land Food Master’s Fellowships in UK

The Royal Agriculture College at the University College of Cirencester is offering a Master’s Degree Scholarship to Africans mainly from Southern and East Africa who are interested in the African Fellowship and Chevening Scholarship of the University for the 2013/2014 academic session.
The Royal Agriculture College works with up to ten African fellows each year from a number of countries and have worked with fellows from: Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Kenya and Cameroon to date.


Worth of Awards
Scholarships cover tuition fees, board and accommodation, flights to and from the UK, provision for networking and a short industrial placement in Africa or the UK. Applicants are advised that scholarships do not cover incidental costs whilst in the UK and are advised that they should make provision in the order of £200 pcm.

Eligibility
  • Fellowships are offered to Africans mainly from Southern and East Africa who have experience in agriculture, food or natural resource exploitation and management; an interest in land reform; and a desire to make a strategic and sustainable contribution to Africa’s development.
  • The programme is specifically linked to the MSc International Rural Development and the MSc Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security courses.

2013-2014 Oxford Reach Undergraduate Scholarship for Developing Countries

The University of Oxford invites applications for its fully-funded undergraduate Reach Oxford scholarships (formerly Oxford Student Scholarships), which open to students from low income countries who, for political or financial reasons, or because suitable educational facilities do not exist, cannot study for a degree in their own countries. The scholarships are only open to new students who will be starting an undergraduate course in the University in October 2013.

Duration of Scholarship: 3 or 4 years depending on course length
College Choice: Not all colleges are able to offer Reach Oxford Scholarships every year. If you are accepted by a college that is not participating in the scheme, this will not prevent you from applying for and being awarded a scholarship. If your application is successful, arrangements will be made to transfer you between colleges.
Other Criteria: This scheme is only suitable for candidates of the highest academic ability who have outstanding examination results. However, financial need and social commitment are also major criteria for selection. Applicants should be intending to return to their country of ordinary residence following their studies.

WMF Scholarships for Developing Country Students

Brief description: The Wells Mountain Foundation, a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA, funds scholarships for individuals in developing nations or other situations of extreme poverty.

 All fields of study but fields such as  health care, social work, education, social justice, as well as, professions that help the economy and progress of the country such as computers, engineering, agriculture and business are favored.
 
Number of Scholarships: 28 scholars were selected in 2011.

Target group: Citizens of developing countries

Scholarship value/inclusions:
 Scholarships range from  $300.US to a rare high of $3000.US to cover part of tuition and fees, books and materials, room rent and meals.

They do not fund the following:
- education at a college, polytechnic or university in the United States, UK, Australia, or Europe  with some exceptions
- Masters or Doctorate Degrees. A medical degree, however, is acceptable.
- laptop computers, conferences or trips
- debts or past due tuition bills

Eligibility:
 WMF’s ideal candidate is a student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:

- successfully completed a secondary education, with good  to excellent grades
- will be studying in their country or another country in the developing world
- plans to live and work in their own country after they graduate
-has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and/or is willing to volunteer while  receiving the WMF scholarship
- may have some other funds available for their education, but will not be able to go to school without a scholarship
- submits a complete, legible 2012 application in English

2013-2014 SCIAF Zambia Scholarship for Master’s Students from Burundi, Malawi and Zambia in UK

Description:
The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF), in association with the Scottish Government, will offer one fully-funded scholarship to students from Burundi, Malawi or Zambia for the 2013-2014 academic session. The scholarship is open to students applying to the MSc in African Studies or the MSc in Africa and International Development. The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, SCIAF, is the official aid and international development charity of the Catholic Church in Scotland.  Funded principally by voluntary donations, SCIAF works in partnership with local communities, of all faiths, in Africa, Asia and Latin America, helping some of the world’s poorest people free themselves from poverty.



Eligibility:
 -The scholarship is open to students from Burundi, Malawi or Zambia who are accepted for admission to the MSc in African Studies or the MSc in Africa and International Development.

 In April 2011 an agreement on collaboration in Science and Technology between the governments of South Africa and Tanzania was signed. Towards implementation of the signed agreement, the two countries developed a Programme of Cooperation. Eligibility: 
The following criteria will apply for the selection of holders of scholarships:
1. Only applicants originating in developing countries, qualify for selection. To be eligible, candidates must reside and work in their country at the time of the introduction of the file.
2. ONLY the nationals of the selected countries (see above) are authorized to postulate with the CUD Scholarships.
3. At the beginning of the programme, candidates must be less than 40 years old for courses, and less than 45 years old for training programmes.
4. Candidates must be holders of a degree that is comparable to a Belgian University graduate degree (“licence”). However, for certain programmes different rules of admissibility may be defined, and these are specified hereafter, where appropriate.
5. Candidates must show professional experience of at least two years upon termination of their studies. •  Establishment allowance—a once only payment of A$5,000 as a contribution towards as accommodation expenses, text books, study materials
• Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE) is a fortnightly contribution to basic living expenses paid at a rate determined by AusAID. From 1 January 2012, CLE payable to Scholars studying under an ADS is A$28,000 per year.
•  Introductory Academic Program (IAP)—a compulsory 4-6 week program prior to the commencement of formal academic studies covering information on life and study in Australia.
•  Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award (for award holder only)—provided to cover the student’s basic medical costs (with the exception of pre existing conditions).
•  Pre-course English (PCE) fees—if deemed necessary PCE may be available for students for in-country and/or in-Australia training.
•  Supplementary Academic Support may be available to ensure a Scholar’s academic success or enhance their academic experience.
•  Fieldwork (for research students only)—may be available for eligible research students for one return economy class airfare via the most direct route to their country of citizenship or within Australia.
Eligibility: To be eligible to receive a Scholarship, applicants must:
a. be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing the Scholarship
b. be a citizen of a participating country (as listed on AusAID’s Scholarship website) and be residing in and applying for the Scholarship from their country of citizenship
c. not be married or engaged to or be a de facto of a person who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency, at any of the application, selection or mobilisation phases or while on-scholarship in Australia
Note: Residents of Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau with New Zealand citizenship are eligible but must apply for an AusAID 576 student visa.
d. not be current serving military personnel
e. not be applying for another long-term AusAID scholarship unless they have returned to their home country and resided there* for twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia (for example, a previous Scholar who has been on AusAID scholarship/s in Australia for four years will not be eligible to apply for another AusAID scholarship until they have been home for eight years)
f. not hold or have held an Australian Government-funded scholarship (e.g. Endeavour Award) in the preceding two years, at the time of application
g. satisfy any specific criteria established by the applicant’s country and/or government of citizenship
h. be able to satisfy the admission requirements of the institution at which the Scholarship is to be undertaken (this may mean that Post will need to withdraw a Scholarship offer if the recipient cannot satisfy the institution’s admission requirements. This may not be known until Post requests a placement at selected institutions)
i. be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) for an AusAID Student Visa 576 (this may mean that Post will need to withdraw a Scholarship offer if the recipient cannot satisfy the visa requirements)

There is usually one annual selection round in each country. Each Country Program has different timelines but deadline falls around March-April annually.

2013 World Citizen Talent Scholarships for International Students at The Hague University in Netherlands

Eligibility:
-   You come from outside the European Union (and not from Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or Surinam).
-  You are enrolling for the first time for the first year of one of our bachelor programmes.
- You would otherwise have to pay the full institutional tuition fee rate.

For Whom: This Scholarship is open for International (and not from Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or Surinam) Students.
Description: We are seeking young, intelligent, talented and ambitious people who view themselves as citizens of the world. If these sounds like you and the conditions listed above apply to you, all you need to do is complete the application form and write an essay of 950 to 1100 words that would convince us to provide you with a scholarship.
Number of awards offered:  54 scholarships are offered.
Duration of award(s):  The scholarships cover almost two-thirds of the total first year university’s tuition fee and will only be awarded once.
What does it cover? The scholarship is for £2,000 which is available only during the approved year abroad.
Selection criteria: The judges will select the 54 students whose essays will have impressed them most and reward them with a scholarship. The decision of the jury will be binding.
